Bertie of Stickhut

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 2 months ago

Bertie of Stickhut was a legendary general of Snoabbia. He first gained prominence as a mere sergeant, when he led the defending Snoabbian sconetroopers to victory against the attacking Akamaian camel-cavalry after his commanding officer was accidentally felled by a confused Snoabbian crumpetslinger. He quickly rose up the ranks, until he (a commoner by birth) commanded more power and respect than the highest-ranking Snoabbian aristocrats. Naturally, this was an unacceptable state of affairs, and Bertie was assassinated by his treacherous consort Jiyfz, who poured poisoned tea into his ear while he slept. His ignonimous death marked the end of the Snoabbian Golden Age, and the Snoabbian aristocracy was soon destroyed not from within but from without, after no other general proved capable of repelling the Akamaians. To this day, his trademark battlecry of "For Snoabbia and a nice hot cuppa when we're all finished with this bit of bother!" appears on the flag of the Snoabbian Resistance, and is treated with much the same reverence as the ancient Mansurian slogan "Thou Shalt Not Mess With Mansuria". His second most famous quote, "Gosh, Jiyfz, I'm bally well glad to know I can always count on you not to pour poisoned tea in my ear while I sleep," has not caught on to the same extent.
